The Waterfall:
Contribution of A Local Tour Guide

We have to wake up early in the morning and leave to see this waterfall. The name of the waterfall is Hamham. It is located in the Rajkandi forest adjacent to the Indian border in Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar district of Sylhet division of Bangladesh. There is no other way to enter this forest except on foot. This forest area is not flat, it is a hilly forest area. It is not only necessary to walk in this forest, but to reach the waterfall, you have to walk a long 7 km long way through the high and low hills.
However, the surrounding nature, wildlife and its biodiversity do not feel this difficulty. However, while enjoying the surrounding nature, wildlife and its biodiversity, you will not feel any pain in your walking feet. But here it is not just a matter of going 7 kilometers, but to come back you have to walk another 7 kilometers on the same way.
Mr. David, Mrs. David and I left at 5:45 in the morning with one powerful jeep from a resort in Srimangal to Ham Ham Falls. The purpose of leaving so early in the morning is basically: when we climb the mountain, the sun will not be above our heads. If the sun is overhead, our tired body will feel more tired due to the heat of the sun.
Anyway, after driving for 30 minutes as usual, we reached a local market. The name of the market is Khorma Bazar (Locally called). I had already called Mr. Mamun who will help us all the way from the beginning of Rajkandi forest to Hamham waterfall as a guide. He was already waiting for us in the market as per his plan.
All five of us including my two honorable tourists, Mr. Mamun (Local Guide), Jeep driver and I finished our breakfast and bought some dry foods, fruits and water and left for the falls again. Rajkandi Forest starts from just one and a half kilometers from this local market. Within three to four minutes we reached the very threshold of Rajkandi forest.
After parking the Jeep and leaving the driver there, our final preparations to visit the falls began. Firstly our guide Mr. Mamun took out his chopper which was wrapped in a sack, meanwhile I took out tobacco leaves. I crushed the tobacco leaves with both hands and mixed it with a little water to make a paste and applied it on the open part of my own body and gave it to my guests and requested them to apply it on the open part of the body. I told them that this system is to save us from leeches. Because, there are many leeches in this forest. Since we have to walk a lot deep into the forest, we need to be careful and prepared beforehand.
Our journey began. Crossing a small stream, Mamun cut four feet of bamboo for all of us from a bamboo grove. It will be a little easier to climb the mountain by relying on it. Four people carrying four sticks in their hands, crossing the small and big hills, crossing the obstacles of small tree branches and moving forward along the narrow and hilly road. After 40 minutes of continuous walking, when everyone’s muscles from waist to legs started getting tense, we all sat on the roots of big trees along the way to rest. It was 7:45 am. Being in the forest, the sun had not caught our eyes yet.
Anyway, after having some food and water we set off again to move forward. Walking down the hill, this time we went down into the mountain stream. You have to walk very carefully on small stones and slippery paths, if you are careless you can get sprained feet. Mamun, our guide from the front in this difficult time, is fearlessly leading us forward. Not only the path, but every step of the path he shows us with utmost care. We are all looking at him like we are mesmerized. How can a boy pass such an exciting path so casually?
It was exactly eight o’clock. After crossing many craggy ways, we all reached our desired Hamham Falls. What a unique sign of nature! The eyes widen when you see it! After enjoying nature to ourselves it was time to head back. As we all prepared to go back, our local guide Mr. Mamun said that he will climb to the very top of the waterfall right where the water is coming down. By saying this he started his work. He found a way and started to climb, in no time he was at the top. Seeing him, our tourist Mr. David is starting to get into it too. From above, Mamun guided him and helped him to climb up. Later I also went up. It is truly an incredible feeling. Stayed there for some more time on this occasion.

After spending about two hours in all, we started back at ten o’clock. Similarly the guide Mamun helped us in the overall direction. We reached the car parking area at 11:40. Everyone got into the jeep. Our local guide Mr. Mamun said goodbye to us in the local (Khorma) market. My tourists also said goodbye to him. Also they thanked him for such a beautiful trekking.
